Commodities – Oil tension eases

Oil prices opened high Monday but fell later in the day, as news that Israel may scale back its attack on Lebanon and on reports of a possible breakthrough in talks with Iran.
Prices for the ICE Brent front month contract at one point hit USD 78.18/ barrel, falling later to 75.73, before ending at 75.92, down 1.66. The corresponding contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange traded at 75.30, shedding 1.73. Crude oil prices have recently surged to around the USD 78 mark over the last few days on fears that the conflict in the Middle East would spread to Iran,
