Carbon prices climbed further yesterday, with December 05 surging past EUR 22/tonne during the day. The firm CO2 market is mainly due to rising gas prices in the UK, say market players.
Carbon prices for December delivery increased EUR 1.00-1.50 from Tuesday’s close, and rising UK NBP gas prices were seen as the main price driver. The 2005 vintage was traded in a EUR 21.00-22.05/tonne range during the day, and at the ECX, the contract closed at EUR 21.90/tonne. At Nord Pool, CO2 allowances for December 05 delivery were last traded at EUR 21.95/tonne, an increase of 1.70
