Carbon prices dropped to another record low on Monday, as December 2007 fell to EUR 3.85/tonne in the afternoon. Prices for oil, gas and coal also headed south yesterday.
The mild weather and falling energy prices were cited as the main reasons for the fall. In addition, a new forecast from investment bank UBS had a bearish effect on the market, according to Point Carbon. UBS revised its 2007 average price from EUR 5.00 to EUR 3.00. Allowances for the second phase dropped to a new record low as well, with December 2008 trading as low as EUR 14.40/tonne.
