Nordic Market - The significance of the spot

The market opened up and continued the strong movements from last week, helped by continuously dry and cold weather forecasts. Everyone is keeping their eye on the volatile spot.
Volumes have been modest this morning due to great caution, according to a Norwegian trader: “It’s all about the spot. At the moment it’s very hard to predict and this creates nervousness; players wait for the spot before they engage in trading”. It’s all about the spot The Monday system price was set below expectations at 211.

The benchmark SO-05 contract opened up 1.25 NOK this morning and has during the morning hours traded around 176-177 NOK/MWh. “A certain nervousness for a higher system price next week keep holding the market on higher levels”, says a Norwegian trader.
