Nordic Market - Rollercoaster ride

The Nordic power market opened firm, but has come off during the morning session. Players point to the large uncertainty connected to the carbon market, which makes it extremely difficult to predict where power prices will go from here.
The morning has been very volatile, with Q3-06 rising to EUR 42.90 in early trade, before easing off to EUR 40.75, unchanged from Friday.Sigve Ekeland at Lyse Handel describes the market as very unpredictable at the moment, with Nord Pool prices following the carbon market back and forth. Nordic Market – Fumbling in the dark
Prices continue their strong downward direction in the Nordic power market this morning. Spot prices will gradually adjust to dramatically lower marginal costs for coal power plants, but players are still fumbling in the dark for more fundamental signals from the CO2 market.
