Nordic Market - Down for now

With the exception of the front week, all contracts are falling Thursday morning, partly caused by a wetter and milder EC update. Q1-06 and YR-06 have lost half a euro from yesterday’s settlement.
“The market has been soft recently. The bull traders are absent, and the market is responding more to bearish than bullish input. Yesterday, the news about the UK NAP was enough to push prices down, although all other signals pointed upwards,” says Sigve Ekeland at Lyse Handel.The bullish weather forecasts did not influence any other contracts than the front week, he adds. Nordic forward prices opened south this morning, mainly on the back on significantly decreased prices on carbon in early trade. However, the price of emissions is climbing again, with the Nordic forwards following suit.

The latest EC update shows very cold weather next week. If this is realised, spot prices could rocket. So far this morning, the activity has been moderate, and the market players describe the market as difficult.
