Market - Why be modest

With a spiky Monday spot at 334.77 NOK/MWh along with low expectations for precipitation the morning market gapped considerably. That the market is now lifting into the sky should surprise no one, however, and a Norwegian trader argued that a system price at 500 NOK/MWh before Christmas is not at all unrealistic.

Market - Action and reaction
The Tuesday market opened with some new initiative on the upside, but corrected down several NOKs during morning hour trading as spot expectations for Wednesday are bearish due to rising temperatures. Profit taking was on the agenda this morning as well, while all attempts to knock the market off its feet failed, and V1-03 was brought back to a 286 NOK/MWh level.

In the thin morning trading most contracts lifted again, however, a raise applied to marginal pre-weekend shopping. One interesting question today is how high the Monday system price will be, a Norwegian trader argued. Another player held that the upside ahead is almost unlimited.
