Market - The smell of power bears

The Tuesday market stayed with its bearish leanings after a quickly interrupted OTC early morning-lift. The V2-03 contract was traded down to 260 NOK/MWh, and will be pushing for more downside, a Norwegian and a Swedish trader believed today. A great deal of precipitation is not only present in the forecasts, but delivered. “The hydrology is better than in a long time, but it seems that the market psychology is still somewhat coloured by dry weather and a bull mentality,” the Swedish trader at a production company said.
The wet prognoses are intact and more precipitation than prognosticated was delivered the last 24 hours. The market has been reluctant to accept a weather trend change, the Swedish trader believed. “It is as if the market doesn’t quite believe that the low pressures are for here for real. Market - Dead water today, any direction tomorrow
At open the Wednesday morning market was lifted on drier forecasts. The general sentiment today is a market awaiting something, however, and players we spoke with had no strong opinions about a clear direction. “It’s a market in dead water. It is too early to take it up on the balance deficit, and there is no pressure on the producers when precipitation is delivered either,” a Norwegian trader said. “Neutral,” an international trader declared.

The Monday morning session was at first characterized by the strong spot that held a gappy downside at bay, but mostly imprinted with the wet weather outlooks that took the levels below the strong Friday close, as well as profit taking. NENA said this morning that the strong spot is not all that surprising, and argued that it probably reflects the water values better than for instance 220 NOK/MWh.
