Market - Shortage, not short

The Monday morning market was characterized by the weather change over the weekend, and all contracts were consequently significantly up. Block4 was lifted some 40 NOK, while SO-03 touched its resistance level in the NOK/MWh 215 area.
The nearest weeks and Block4 are priced above this week´s level, and hence the market expects the water values to be repriced into the nearest future. The summer contract was marginally lifted through its range this morning but fell back. With confirmed dry weather forecasts tomorrow a continued lift towards the 218 level seems to be on the cards. The Tuesday market opened up as the fundamental signals were pointing in favour of higher prices, and Block4 was priced up at 400 NOK/MWh, while the summer contract traded up to 221.50 NOK/MWh. Players we spoke with today said that many factors indicate that the price curve will be further lifted and argued that 230 NOK/MWh is within reach this week for SO-03.

Market - Drier and longer
The Tuesday market opened up as the fundamental signals were pointing in favour of higher prices, and Block4 was priced up at 400 NOK/MWh, while the summer contract traded up to 221.50 NOK/MWh. Players we spoke with today said that many factors indicate that the price curve will be further lifted and argued that 230 NOK/MWh is within reach this week for SO-03.

Market - Who knows best?
The Friday morning market was bearish as weather forecasts were of good promise for mild weather and precipitation. Today power flow continues to go from Norway to Sweden, and the Swedes are importing new record high loads this morning with temperatures down to –22°C in Stockholm. NVE/Statnett’s request to Norwegian producers to show responsibility regarding the security of supply seems to have been a shot in the dark.
