Market - Neutral till Monday

With weather forecasts not very different from yesterday, prices stayed around yesterday’s close this morning, just marginally up. V2-03 traded in an undramatic spread of 287-292.50 NOK/MWh, and traders believed that the day would remain here, while next week is an open game.
The morning market was Friday-like, and little new was brought to the trading scene, seeing V2-03 more than 10 NOK below last Friday. The front remains wet, but as always it is delivery that counts. The week started off in a bearish manner and the pressure is on the downside. V2-03 traded down to 280.25 NOK/MWh this morning, and players we spoke with said it seems to be only a question of time before the break comes. “It can’t hold forever,” a Norwegian trader said. V2-03 traded down to 280.25 NOK/MWh this morning, and players we spoke with said it seems to be only a question of time before the break comes. “It can’t hold forever,” a Norwegian trader said. A Swedish trader argued that the only factor of significance now is the very wet forecasts and delivery.

(Heren Energy) - Prompt market activity at the NBP this week has been focused on continuing maintenance at a number of locations, with the week ’s trading largely split between a broadly well supplied market on Monday and Tuesday and a slightly tighter market from Wednesday onwards. The prompt strength has also dominated the nearside curve periods, while declining oil prices have been the most commonly cited factor further out on the curve.

A soaking wet EC prognosis took prices down this morning, V2-03 to 283.75 NOK/MWh. Players we spoke with doubted that the contract would break 280 NOK/MWh before the weekend, but agreed that the possibilities on the downside are very good with today’s weather outlooks. One of them said that it was surely delivering from above where he was at this morning. And so it did where the other was.
