Market - Bearish, summer calm

The week started off carefully and traded down a few NOK at open, seeing rainy weather forecasts and despite the strong Monday spot. The summer holidays may finally have brought in the big calm to the market, and no one is eager to see last week repeat itself, a Norwegian player said.
Weather forecasts are wet, but the Norwegian player believed that they remain uncertain, and that it is not given that precipitation will deliver in the right places.- Given normal amounts of precipitation the weeks should fall from the present level. The weather forecasts are quite uncertain though, since the outlooks are full of local showers that could deliver in all the wrong places.

Prices opened marginally down this morning, seeing that weather forecasts were very wet. Turnover was again summer-thin today, when V2-03 traded down to 278 NOK/MWh, before strengthening throughout the morning hours, lifting to 282.50 NOK/MWh. NENA said that precipitation governs the market this summer, and will continue to control what happens in the short as well as the long term.

The Friday morning market was similar to the three previous days, as it gapped down another level. V2-03 is returning to more familiar landscapes, and players we spoke with this morning believed that the chances are best on the downside next week. “We are moving towards the fundamental levels,” a Norwegian producer said. A trader agreed, but recognized the fear for the upside as well.
