Market - About the spot

The market was at rest this morning, taking in the two last days’ significant price drop and awaiting a very uncertain system price for tomorrow. After yesterday’s power cut in Southern Sweden and parts of Denmark, much is still quite unclear regarding the situation, a Norwegian said. But prices are still too high, a Swedish trader argued.
Prices at first stayed around yesterday’s close this morning, the forwards strengthening just marginally while the weeks were up several NOK. The spot is expected to collapse in not many days, and the trend is unambiguously bearish, players maintain. “It’s soaking wet. And these lows seem to have no ending,” a Norwegian trader said. “This doesn’t smell of 1996 anymore. It stinks of 1996,” a trader at a Norwegian production company said.

V2-03 traded down to 280.25 NOK/MWh this morning, and players we spoke with said it seems to be only a question of time before the break comes. “It can’t hold forever,” a Norwegian trader said.
