Crude oil prices reached new highs on Friday, but eased off later in the session. Gas prices also firmed, while coal prices softened.
The strong rise in oil was helped by a combination of a record low US dollar, a sharp drop in US crude stocks and Opec's decision not to increase output. However, prices eased off in the afternoon as the dollar rebounded.
