Commodities - Strong gains for EUAs

Carbon allowances gained more than five per cent during Tuesday, while crude oil prices eased off.
Prices for European carbon allowances firmed considerably yesterday, with December 2008 settling up 98 cents at EUR 19.38/tonne. Activity in the gas and carbon markets was subdued due to the UK bank holiday, whilst oil gained in value as stockpiles are declining. Crude oil prices increased yesterday as the market expects the decline in stockpiles to continue.
