Commodities - Prepare for more

Tuesday was a day to catch your breath and prepare for more in the commodities markets. CO2 was very volatile, oil climbed back up to touch 60.10, while the picture was more mixed for gas and coal.
CO2 closed in a EUR 28.75 – 28.85/tonne range on Tuesday, with OTC prices firmimg somewhat and narrowing the gap to prices at the exchanges. At Nord Pool, the 2005 vintage closed down 0.10 on the previous day at 28.75, while at the ECX the contract moved sideways to close at 28.85. Carbon prices showed only few movements on Wednesday but “rested on a high level,” one market participant said. Oil climbed further up and prices below USD 60 barrel begin to appear as relatively moderate. On the back of this development, also gas prices firmed.

Carbon moved once more northwards on Monday, pulling the German power curve in the same direction. IPE Brent firmed on supply concerns for the next winter, while gas traders focused on spot trading, where the day ahead added value due to maintenance at the Bacton-Zeebrugge Interconnector pipeline.
