Crude oil prices surged above USD 59 a barrel in New York on increased fuel demand and Opec production cuts.
Heating consumption in the northeastern parts of the US will be 36 per cent above normal this week, one forecast said on Friday. In addition, Opec has agreed to trim output by 500,000 barrels a day, starting on 1 February. Consequently, crude oil for March rose USD 1.72 to USD 59.02 inNew York on Friday, the highest close this year. Prices jumped 6.5 per cent during last week. B
