Oil prices moved up on Thursday on the back of a larger than expected drop in US crude stockpiles combined with geopolitical turmoil following the assassination of Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.
In New York, the WTI February contract reached USD 96.62/barrel (+0.65) after having traded at a peak of USD 97.77 earlier in the session. The Brent front month contract in London ended the day up 84 cents at USD 94.78 a barrel after having traded at a high of USD 95.87.
