After hitting a record high of USD 78.77/barrel during yesterday's trading, oil prices in New York fell back later in the session on the back of stronger petrol and heating oil stockpiles.
The WTI front month contract at Nymex came off over a dollar day on day to settle down 1.68 at USD 76.53/barrel. The market reacted strongly to a larger than expected decline in US crude stock levels, but higher petrol and heating oil stock levels suppressed the upward movement. Brent crude also shed strongly in value, ending the day at 75.35 (-1.70), but is currently trading at USD 75.43/barre
