Commodities: No turning south

Wednesday saw gains in both the Carbon and coal markets, and while oil and gas eased slightly, prices show no signs of heading south just yet.
Carbon prices for December 2005 delivery hovered around the EUR 23.00 level on Wednesday. The day’s trading started up with trades in the 2005 vintage going through above the 23.00 level at Nord Pool, but later finding support at the 22.70 level. The contract closed in the 22.75 to 22.95 corridor. Some 705,000 allowances changed hands in the OTC market, including just 5,000 heard

Oil prices surged in New York to record high levels above USD 60/bbl at Nymex during yesterday’s trading session on supply fears. As a consequence, gas prices also moved upwards, while carbon moved sideways, settling around the EUR 23/t mark.
