Carbon seems to reach new record levels every day. Yesterday, EUA’s for 2005 hit EUR 24.20, but the market easily could see the contract breaking through the 25.00 barrier today, according to a trader. Oil fell by around two dollars yesterday, on the back of profit taking after the recent jumps to above USD 60.00/bbl.
At Nord Pool’s carbon futures market, the 2005 vintage closed at EUR 24.05/ton on Tuesday, up 0.07 day-on-day, while the corresponding ECX contract gained 0.65 to settle at 24.20. Over the course of the day, future contracts for this year traded in a range between 23.70 and 24.15, while spot prices were fixed between 23.85 and 23.99.
