Commodities - Mainly gains

Prices on the European carbon allowance market firmed slightly at the start of the new trading week. Gains were registered also for coal and gas. Crude oil closed the day with a retreat, but only after soaring to six-week highs earlier in the day.
The US light crude oil peaked during the day at USD 55.55 a barrel, but eased off by the end of session to USD 54.49, representing a loss of 54 cents day on day.  The Brent front month retreated half a dollar to 53.67 by the close in London, almost a dollar lower than the intraday high of 54.62.The intraday rally that lifted oil prices to six week highs was caused by worries over tight d
