Commodities - Gains across the board

Carbon and fuel prices rose on Thursday.
European carbon prices gained on Thursday morning before slipping later in the afternoon trading session. The December 08 contract closed up almost half a euro at EUR 20.44/tonne on ECX. "The market is still bullish," said one trader, pointing to one key factor; Vattenfall's announced annual short position of between 28m and 30m tonnes. "Now there is plenty of buying interest," he said.

The CO2 market was lifted yesterday, influenced by rising gas prices. Coal prices rose as well, while oil fell more than a dollar due to rising US stockpiles.
