The price of phase two carbon allowances gained strongly yesterday after another strict decision by the European Commission. Prices also rose in the fuel markets.
The EC cut the national allocation plans of Poland and the Czech Republic by a total of 90.7m tonnes, while no cuts were made to the revised French allocation plan.Even though the cuts were in line with market expectations, the December 2008 carbon contract gained 90 cents day on day to close at EUR 17.30/tonne at the ECX and by 50 cents to EUR 17.00 at Nord Pool.
