Commodities - Credit fears affect oil market

Oil prices dropped below the 70 dollar mark in London during yesterday's trading amid the turbulence in the credit marktes. This morning the Brent was last seen at USD 70.30/barrel.
The front month Brent contract for September reached a low of USD 69.25/barrel yesterday, but settled higher at 70.21, still down 78 cents from the day before.Prices were pushed down by increased fears of a liquidity crunch in global markets as BNP Paribas barred withdrawals from funds that owned subprime loans. Oil prices fell yesterday despite a larger than expected fall in US inventories. Meanwhile, European gas prices firmed slightly while coal moved in the other direction.
