Carbon closed below EUR 14/t on Thursday largely on the back of pessimism regarding an outcome at the Copenhagen climate summit, players said.
In the European carbon market, the Dec 10 contract on the ICE/ECX platform shed EUR 0.76 to settle at EUR 13.61/t, after having opened the session at EUR 14.25/t.
Fading optimism regarding the outcome of the Copenhagen summit and reluctance from players to take on new positions ahead of Christmas had put downward pressure on prices in a thin market, players said.
