The 2008 carbon price was lifted by higher German power prices yesterday. Oil prices came off during the day, while coal prices are still firm.
Strong German power prices and firmer coal and oil lifted the carbon market Tuesday morning. The December 2008 contract peaked at EUR 18.35/tonne, but eased off to EUR 18.03/tonne at the close, up only three cents from Monday. Still, it was the highest close for the contract since 19 December.The German Cal 08 base contract climbed to to EUR 54.70/MWh, before easing off to EUR 54.50/MWh.
