Several record high prices were reached in the commodity markets on Thursday. UK winter gas prices hit new highs, carbon traded above the EUR 20.00/t for the first time, oil prices stayed above USD 50/bbl and the German power forward contract Cal 06 traded at a new peak of EUR 39.55/MWh.
Let’s begin with carbon. EUAs for delivery in December 2005 began the day trading at EUR 20.00/t before jumping to 20.30 later in the morning. Prices slipped later to end the day in a range of 19.60 to 19.75.
