Commodities – A slight retreat

While crude oil prices eased from their record highs on Monday, they remain well above the USD 77 mark. Gas and carbon prices also softened on Tuesday.
Crude oil prices softened on Tuesday after the the record levels reached on Monday following BP’s decision to shut down the Prudhoe Bay oilfield in Alaska.The restart of production at the largest oilfield in North America could take weeks or months, while the US Energy Information Administration does not expect the field  to restart before January 2007.ICE September Brent cl

Weaker than expected gasoline and crude inventories in the US pushed oil prices up towards record highs yesterday, before prices eased late in the evening. Meanwhile, prices were cooling off in the gas and coal markets while carbon stayed rangebound.
