Market - Out and down

As the first Nordic supplier threw in the towel this morning, we have been given a taste of the problematic situation that businesses without extra cash and hedged power find themselves in after the historic price lift. A producer today expressed that this is a concern in the market at the moment, but not unexpected.
The fear of capacity problems is considered less pressing now though, and with the new weather forecast it contributed to take the market down this morning. The word downside has been reintroduced. When nothing is sureDespite the morning’s drop, little is sure regarding the developments ahead, and the market was considered to be without a clear direction. Play

Market - Cruising in for Christmas with one eye on the screen
The morning market was bearish and V1-03 fell to 529 NOK/MWh at the lowest, but on very thin volume. Players seem to have decided to cruise ashore for Christmas, and few are willing to spend risk capital in the currently volatile, thin market. More action is taking place outside the trading rooms regarding the current “situation”.

Market - All round down
The continued fall this afternoon was quite significant, and Week51 corrected down some 100 NOK. V1-03 was down 64 NOK from yesterday’s close. The system price for Wednesday was fixed flat and below market expectations at 685.63 NOK/MWh (+1.40), and interestingly the area prices are now becoming more diversified.

Market - All round down
The continued fall this afternoon was quite significant, and Week51 corrected down some 100 NOK. V1-03 was down 64 NOK from yesterday’s close. The system price for Wednesday was fixed flat and below market expectations at 685.63 NOK/MWh (+1.40), and interestingly the area prices are now becoming more diversified.

Market - According to the analysts
This winter should give us a real test on how rapid end-users react to price changes in the Nordic market. Markedskraft believes that consumption has to drop 5-10% in order to avoid power rationing this winter. Nena believes such a consumption drop is highly realistic, and will bring prices down. SKM points out that in very cold winters consumption often increases as much as 8%.

The Monday morning market was extremely thin, a consequence of high meeting activity as NECH Friday notified its members of a 50% risk interval increase. In addition, the market as a whole has become a stay-out area with hazardous volatility and sinking liquidity where only those with unfinished business participate. The record-high system price at 682.96 NOK/MWh is expected to be beaten for Tuesday.
